Troop 403, chartered by the Knights of Columbus at St. Paul's Catholic church, is a young and active organization. Going on it's 10th year (founded 10/1/96), Troop 403 has grown from it's core of 13 founding scouts to currently about 67. Located in South Austin, we are one of the fastest growing troops in the Comanche district. This growth can be attributed to a solid and fair scouting program and the enthusiasm of both troop 403 scouts and their adult leadership.
Meeting every Monday at St. Paul's our troop meeting work on progressing our scout skills. In the spirit of Boy Scouting the activities are focused on the Outdoors.
In addition, monthly we have a weekend camp out to practice these skills and have fun. It is a great pleasure to see our scouts learn and grow as they master these skills in a healthy and nurturing environment. Our monthly camping ventures take us to many Boy Scout, state, and other camps around Texas. We practice low impact camping, meaning we leave the camp grounds better than how we found them. In the spirit of Scouting we use a Patrol method, where the scouts are grouped into patrols of 6-8 boys. Scouting is a boy lead program, so the senior scouts teach the younger scouts skills that they have mastered. Adult leadership through the Scoutmaster and many Assistant Scoutmasters observe and provide a resource to the scouts.
Scouting provides a principle-based program to develop leadership, social, physical, and mental skills. Through the framework of Boy Scouting, Troop 403 is striving to make our scouts the true leaders of the future.
