Troop 403

Webelo Transition Information

Your new Boy Scout will go through a period of adjustment from being one of the “big kids” of his Cub Scout Pack to being the “little guy” with his new Troop. He may go from knowing most the kids in his Pack, to not knowing very many of the older boys. There will also be the change to weekly Troop meetings from the monthly Pack meetings and probably twice a month den meetings. A lot of times, this can be a little overwhelming and unsettling at first, but in a few short weeks, you will see him opening up and fitting in with the Troop.

As a parent, you will also be transitioning from working very closely with your son on a one-to-one basis in the Cub Scout activities, to stepping back while he starts working with the older boys and Assistant Scoutmasters on his “Trail to Eagle”. This is part of the change to a boy-led institution, from one that is adult led.

Your son is entering the phase of his life where he will be undergoing dramatic physical and emotional changes. Scouting gives him the opportunity to develop leadership skills and to enjoy many different outdoor activities, all while working to become a productive and healthy young man.

Troop 403 welcomes your son, and strongly encourages adults to become active in the Troop. We have found that scouts whose parents are involved with the Troop tend to participate in more activities and are more likely to advance further in the scouting program.
