Older Scout—High Adventure Camps
Scouting has three national high adventure camps; Philmont in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Minnesota, and Florida Sea Base. There are also high adventure offerings at many of the various scout council camp locations around the country. Troop 403 traditionally participates in a minimum of one long term (5 days or more) high adventure camp annually, and will do more as scouts and parents are willing to plan and execute. Most high adventure camps require the scout to have earned the rank of First Class and be at least 13 or 14 years of age.
Philmont is considered to be the ultimate Boy Scout experience. There is so much demand from scouts around the country and world, that limitations are placed on how frequently a Troop may go to Philmont. If a troop is exceptionally lucky, it is possible (but unlikely) to participate every other year. As evidenced by our recent camp history, Troop 403 has indeed been fortunate.
Northern Tier in Minnesota and Florida Sea Base offer a variety of water based activities. These are favorite destinations of Troop 403 in the years we do not go to Philmont.
