Troop 403

Summer & Winter Camps: Bear Creek and El Rancho Cima

Troop 403 generally plans two summer camps and one winter camp every year. These camps are at scout facilities. The winter camp and one of the summer camps are at our Capitol Area Council’s Lost Pines Scout Reservation in Bastrop. The other summer camp is an out-of-council event to provide the scouts (and parents) an interesting variety of venues.

These longer term campouts are particularly well suited for scouts to accomplish significant merit badge work, many times completing the merit badges during the time at camp. Programs are also available to help a scout with rank advancements if he has missed a number of opportunities with the Troop during the year.

Bear Creek was Troop 403's 2009 "Out of Council" Summer camp which is part of the Alamo Area Council service area.  One of Troop 403's alumni grandfather was instrumental in the establishment of this came with one of the camp roads carries the family name Duderstadt Way.

On this ruggedly beautiful reservation in the Texas Hill Country, youth, families, and adult volunteers of all ages enjoy weekends, day excursions, and week long summer camp experience.  Is was a fund experience for the boys and leaders with nightlt visits from the native wildlife in the area.

Bear Creek Programs

The Ranger Program is designed for first year campers and teaches basic skills while allowing the camper to get off and running on the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class ranks.

Older Scout Program

Bear Creek is famous for challenging programs for older Scouts. The C.O.P.E. course is a well-rounded, fun program with low and high element activities (confidence building and group dynamic team challenges). Also available are rappelling, rock climbing, black powder rifle and canoeing on the Guadalupe River. A mountain bike program is also a popular feature. A small additional fee will be charged for each of these programs.

El Rancho Cima

El Rancho Cima was Troop 403's 2008 "Out of Council" Summer camp which is part of the Sam Houston Council service area.  In 2008 we had scouts in two of the camping experiences offered with a trail ride for those in base camp mid-week.

el Rancho Cima

El Rancho Cima is located on the Devil’s Backbone in the Texas Hill Country in Wimberley, TX. It’s location is just about 30 miles south of Austin and 45 northeast of San Antonio and just 15 west of San Marcos on Ranch Road 32. With over 2600 acres of mountainous terrain covered under an umbrella of cedars and hardwoods. El Rancho Cima has a variety of unique program and camping experiences. Younger/Older Scout Programs

Cockrell River Camp is located on the south end of El Rancho Cima just 2 miles from the main gate. The breath taking views are endless as you make your way down towards your campsite on the Blanco River. Each campsite has its own spectacular view of the river. The Blanco River provides unique swimming, canoeing, rowing, kayaking, and even tubing. On a hot summer’s day, relief is just steps away as you submerge yourself in the 68 degree year round Blanco River.
