General Leadership Duties

  • Learn the six Leadership Skills.
  • Set a good example.
  • Wear the uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
Specific Job Duties

Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)
- How many 1 Minimum Rank
- First Class and Completed Silver Pines (JLT weeklong course)

In addition to the General Leadership Duties, the SPL will:

  • Preside at all troop meetings, events, and activities.
  • Chair the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) every month and at campouts.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to other leaders.
  • Work with Scoutmaster in training junior leaders.
  • Learn leadership skills.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader(ASPL) - How many 1
Minimum Rank - First Class and Completed Silver Pines (JLT weeklong course)

In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the ASPL will:

  • Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the SPL.
  • Take over troop leadership in the absence of the SPL.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the SPL.
  • Chair the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.

Patrol Leader (PL) - How many 1 per patrol
MinimumRank - First Class
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the PL will:

  • Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities.
  • Keep patrol members informed.
  • Represent the patrol at all PLCs.
  • Prepare the patrol to take part in all troop activities.
  • Develop patrol spirit.
  • Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.
  • Learn leadership skills.

Venture Crew Chief - How many 1 Minimum Rank –Star,
14 years oldand completed Silver Pines (JLT weeklong course)
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Venture Crew Chief will:
  • Develop an active program for the crew.
  • Provide leadership to selected crew high-adventure activities.
  • Keep crewmembers informed.
  • Represent the crew at all PLCs.
  • Encourage crewmembers to take part in all troop activities.
  • Develop crew spirit.
  • Work with Assistant Scoutmaster in charge of the Venture Crew.
  • Work with troop leaders to make the troop run well.
  • Learn leadership skills.
 
Troop Scribe - How many 1
Minimum Rank - SecondClass
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Troop Scribe will:
  • Attend and keep a log of PLCs.
  • Record Troop attendance.
  • Help record advancement in Troop records.
  • Work with troop leaders in charge of records and advancement.
  • Learn leadership skills.

Troop Historian - How many 1
Minimum Rank - SecondClass
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Troop Historian will:
  • Gather pictures and facts about past activities of the troop.
  • Keep scrapbook and information files.
  • Present Troop Scrapbook at Courts of Honor.
  • Work with troop leaders in charge of Troop History.
  • Attend the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.

Instructor - How many - As Many As Needed
MinimumRank - First Class
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Instructor will:
  • Instruct Scouting skills as needed within the troop or patrols.
  • Prepare, well in advance, for each teaching assignment.
  • Work with troop leaders in charge of specific Scouting skills.
  • Attend the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.
 
Quartermaster (QM) - How many 1
Minimum Rank - FirstClass
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Quartermaster will:
  • Keep records of troop equipment.
  • Keep equipment in good repair.
  • Issue equipment and see that it is returned in good order.
  • Suggest new or replacement items.
  • Work with parent(s) and troop leaders in charge of equipment.
  • Attend the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.
 
Chaplain Aide - How many 2
Minimum Rank - Tenderfoot
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Chaplain Aide will:
  • Lead the troop in pray at troop meetings and campouts.
  • On campouts setup a chapel service on Sundays.
  • Keep troop leaders advised of religious holidays.
  • Assist chaplain in meeting the religious needs of troop members while on troop activities.
  • Encourage saying grace at meals while camping or on activities.
  • Tell troop members about religious emblem program of their faith.
  • Attend the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.
 
Bugler - How many 2
Minimum Rank - Second Class
In addition to the General LeadershipDuties, the Bugler will:
  • Be able to play on the trumpet or bugle:
  • Assembly, To the Colors, Retreat,Reveille, and Taps.
  • Play appropriate calls at all troop activities.
  • Care for the Troop Bugle as so assigned.
  • Complete the Bugling merit badge within three months of election.
  • Work with troop leaders in charge of Music.
  • Attend the ASPL meeting every month.
  • Learn leadership skills.
